Interesting Backup Solutions …

I’m always being asked to do things for preferably less than nothing. So, I’m always on the lookout for free stuff. At the moment we are re-evaluating how we backup our data and servers. Most of these are now virtualised using VMware vSphere 4.x ESX hosts and iSCSI SANs. Anyhow, I recently discovered that Unitrends […]

Sharepoint and Windows Azure Infrastructure Services (WAIS) …

I came across this article by Keith Mayer a few weeks ago: http://bit.ly/106ES98 However, it was only this week that I was able to dedicate some time to setting up my own sharepoint lab. Its pretty cool. I especially like the scripts that make it easy to unprovision and reprovision the VMs. It is only […]

pfSense and ADSL WAN …

I have pfSense 2.x running at a number of sites. In most cases I have a basic modem router configured in bridge mode. Just today I came across this post from Josh @ interspective.net: http://www.interspective.net/2012/05/pfsense-initial-configuration-adsl-wan.html It was an interesting alternative and one that I will definitively have a look at doing some time. Well written […]

Exchange NDR 5.4.6 …

Yesterday I had my assistant delete a user and create them again as a contact. When I tried to email this person today, I got these NDR’s. Event logs confirmed the NDR. After checking email addresses were correct, I purged the mailbox, restarted SMTP and the Information Store with no affect. After some research, I ended […]

Suggested Service Accounts for Sharepoint 2010 …

Some time ago, I was setting up a new Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010 server and was reminded of this page on Todd Klindt’s Sharepoint Admin Blog: http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=237. I used this as the basis for my first Sharepoint 2010 setup last year. Thanks Todd.

Move Sharepoint Site / Web …

Hadn’t done this for awhile and did some google searching to refresh my memory. I found this page useful: http://ranaictiu-technicalblog.blogspot.com.au/2010/09/move-sharepoint-siteweb-from-one.html and thought i’d include it here. Its probably more for my future reference than anything else. However, if it helps you then great! Thanks Sohel.

Service Account Password recovery in Sharepoint 2010 …

Some time ago, I was setting up a new Sharepoint (Foundation) 2010 server and realised that I had forgotten the passwords of the various service accounts I had setup in AD. I wondered if there was a way to get the passwords rather than reset them. A quick google search turned up this page: http://joelblogs.co.uk/2012/09/22/recovering-passwords-for-sharepoint-2010-farm-web-application-and-service-application-accounts/ on a […]
